Safe in your arms is where I’ll be

I can hardly contain my excitement about this post. It has been a year since I first met this lovely family. Sarah had contacted me last year to take their family’s photos and to also capture a moment in time where they would be embarking on a new journey. Sarah was going back to school to study medicine (I know, wow) – she also had a busy, young family plus a husband who also worked full-time. Sarah and Duane are nothing short of amazing parents – the love, affection and patience they have for their family is just astounding and heartwarming. Their son Riel, who is now five, is full of energy and curiosity. And then there is Mary, their seven year old daughter – she is as beautiful inside as she is outside and she is a loving and caring sister. I think Mary is also going to be as tall as me the next time I see her – ha ha. This time around, it was just me and Sarah and the kids as Duane was out of town. We had a good romp in the woods and laughed as Riel ran up and tumbled down the hills over and over again, not a care in the world. I loved how Riel dragged Sarah and Duane’s beloved blanket around and I was delighted that he gave me high fives when we were parting ways. Thank you, Riel. And thank you Sarah, for allowing me to capture your family’s spirit again. I really love these photos… just like you, they lack pretense, and they really show how much love, tenderness and affection you have for your family. This is truly why I love what I do.

Wow, May, thank-you. I started my second year of medicine this morning, and was still reeling a bit from the tears Mary and I shared last night, knowing that we would no longer be together each day. And then, what did I find in my inbox, but your note that these pictures were ready! What perfect timing! And what a gift. Thank-you. Although my family is not complete without my darling husband, I am glad that he was able to enjoy a baseball road-trip with his twin brother, and grateful for the rare chance to have a set of photos of myself with my children. I will especially cherish these in the weeks/months ahead, when I am missing my Mary and Riel. Duane and I both thank-you for these photos, and remain in awe of your photographic talent!
Hugs, Sarah
